The Afenifere Renaissance Youth Congress (ARYG) has warned former President Olusegun Obasanjo to stop working to damage the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The group, which has most of its members from the PDP in the South-West zone, said Obasanjo should formally declare for the All Progressives Congress (APC), instead of working against the PDP from within.

ARYG further stated that Obasanjo’s attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan, were unfortunate because as a former president, he had unrestricted access to the Presidential Villa to discuss whatsoever, and described his action as unstatesmanlike.

The group leader, Mr. Abimbola Owolabi, who spoke against the backdrop of the recent attack by Obasanjo on President Jonathan, said it was difficult to believe that Obasanjo was still a member of the PDP.

He wondered why Obasanjo could not respect the provisions of the constitution of the party, especially the section that frowned on bringing the name of the party to disrepute.

“Obasanjo is not only denigrating the presidency, the person of Jonathan and the ruling party, which he claims to be a member by his constant lies, unwarranted attacks and mischievous blackmail to portray President Jonathan as weak, corrupt and dictatorial, but also manifestly executing the propaganda of the APC whose members he now hobnobs with,” he said.

Meanwhile, it was recently uncovered that the recent verbal attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan by the ex President are based on the fact that President Jonathan has refused to do Obasanjo’s bidding.

It would be recalled that Obasanjo again condemned the incumbent president for not doing enough to bring an end to the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
