Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has dissolved the caretaker committees of all 44 local government areas (LGAs) in the state, Okay.ng reports.

The dissolution comes shortly after the Kano State House of Assembly approved a two-month extension for the tenure of the caretaker chairpersons, which would have run from September 9 to November 9, 2024.

The move nullifies the recent extension and directs the chairpersons to immediately hand over the administration of their respective LGAs to the Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs), who will oversee the councils until the upcoming local government election on October 26, 2024.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The statement expressed appreciation to the outgoing interim management committee members for their six months of service.

It read, “Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf appreciated the outgoing Interim Management Committee members for their commitment in steering affairs of the local governments for half a year,” the statement read.

“He assured that Kano State Government will continue to reckon with and carry them along in engagements for the benefit of the people of Kano.

“Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf directed the Interim management Committees to hand over the affairs of their respective areas to Directors Personnel Management (DPMs) who will run the councils pending the local government elections coming up on the 26th of October this year.

“He called on the Directors Personnel Management to be transparent and adhere strictly to rules and regulations guiding their conducts as the overseers of local governments in the state.”
