Igbo Group In Lagos Lament

A pressure group advancing the interests of Igbos in Lagos, Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria (NCSN) has written an open letter to Governor Babatunde Fashola where they complained of marginalisation of Ndigbo in the politics of Lagos state.

PM News reports that the group frowned at the complete exclusion of Igbo people in the political, judicial and other vital sectors of Lagos State despite the large numbers of Ibos in the state and their economic contribution to the state.

Nigeria Watch reports that with elections coming up next year in February, the group is not happy about the fact that the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has not fielded enough Igbo candidates in Lagos State.

The letter signed by the president of the group, Chief Udo Udeogaranya posited that Ndigbos are completely sidelined from the politics of Lagos State saying that for the exception of one councillor, Ndigbos were not well-represented in the state.

Earlier this year, the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh told reporters that come 2015, Lagos will be under the APGA flag even as another group in Lagos had said that the time is ripe for the Igbo to produce at least the Deputy Governor of Lagos State.

It will be recalled that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Usman, called on the South East geo-political zone, to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 elections, the same way they showed their support in 2011 as Igbos are the key to the President’s re-election.
