Award-winning novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was honoured with a Special Achievement Award at the 2015 Silverbird Man of the Year Award holding at the Prestigious Eko Hotels and Suits in Lagos.
Chimamanda, whose works include Half of Yellow Sun, Purple Hibiscus, Americanah among others, won the award alongside Environmentalist, Desmond Majekodunmi, and Founder of BenTV, Alistair Soyode. The award was received on her behalf by Madam Sally Mbanefo the Director General of Nigerian Tourism Development Board (NDTC).
Also honoured at the colourful ceremony are former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu and the first African Chartered Accountant, Chief Akintola Williams, both receiving the prestigious Silverbird Extraordinary Award.
It will be another feather in the cap for the critically acclaimed author, who first gained prominence when her work “That Harmattan Morning” won the BBC Short Story prize in 2002. She has since gone on to win numerous international awards and her 2013 TEDx talk “We should all be feminists” was sampled by pop sensation Beyonce in her hit song, Flawless.
The Silverbird Man of the Year award was instituted to honour Nigerians who have excelled in their chosen careers.
