Federal government workers across the nation can hope to receive their monthly salaries early enough – due to a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

A statement released by the deputy director of the OAGF, Kene. N. Offie, on Thursday, April 21, indicated that the federal government is working out modalities to ensure that workers are promptly paid, moving forward.

The statement also quoted the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, to have said “there is a standing instruction from Mr. President for workers to be paid on or before 24 or 25 of every month,” but the implementation of the directive has been disturbed by the limited resources available to the government.

The limited resources, Idris said, can only be determined after the monthly FAAC meeting.

He however, revealed that the government has made moves to make a provision that will include salary payment even before the FAAC. The provision would be tested this April.

The statement further said that Idris has promised that his “office is working assiduously to ensure that it complies with the directive of President Buhari to pay salaries on or before the 24th or 25th of every month, assuring that the necessary approval would be sought and gotten to ensure that this becomes a reality.”

Meanwhile, the AGF also disclosed that the Treasury Single Account, has realised a little above N2.7 trillion naira, monies which he said belongs to Ministries, Department and Agencies.

He said that contrary to reports that the TSA funds are being shared in some quarters, the money is meant solely for the operations of the Federal Government Ministries, Department and Agencies and no other purpose.
