Employees of Jumia Nigeria working at the company’s Lagos warehouse are mourning. On Monday, one of them slumped and died after prolonged exposure to excessive heat.

Ola should be married by March this year. That will no longer see the light of day.

We gathered that Ola’s pregnant fiancée is in deep shock.

Jumia staff held a minute silence for their departed colleague around 12 noon on Tuesday. The atmosphere at Jumia warehouse located at Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja is very much suppressed, an employee said on Tuesday.

“People collapse here every other day and we’ve complained on several occasions but they won’t listen to us,” a Jumia employer who doesn’t want to be identified said.

“This place is too hot. The heat is killing us. We are treated like animals. We are suffocating from the heat.

“Things have not been the same since an Indian was put in charge of running the warehouse. Everything has simply gone from good to bad.

“We are being treated like slaves. We know it’s only a matter of time before another person dies. We just don’t know who it will be.

“Most of us are afraid to leave this place because we don’t know where the next meal will come from,” the employee said.
