Prominent Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has written a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on some issues troubling the Niger Delta, including the ‘humiliation and harassment’ of Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo and the renewed bombing of oil installations in the region.

Clark, in the letter dated January 22, 2016, advised the president to address Tompolo’s run-in with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the proposed scrapping of the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Warri South West Local Government, Delta State.

Furthermore, the Niger Delta leader said it was ludicrous that Tompolo, whom he described as a civilised Nigerian, would consider engaging in renewed bombing of oil installations in the region, as was currently being circulated.

While affirming that the region produces the bulk of the nation’s revenue, he wondered why prominent individuals from the region were being harassed by the government on a daily basis.

He advised the president to beware of those advising him, as many of them may not mean well for his administration.

In the same vein, he urged the president to severely deal with anyone caught in the act of bombing oil and gas pipelines in the region.

“I totally condemn the vandalisation of oil and gas pipelines and will give you 100 per cent support for whatever action you take to bring the culprits to book.

“It is with heavy heart that I decided to take record of pipeline vandalisations that have taken place within the last two years,” he stressed.
