Nigerian Army Repels Boko Haram Attack in Maiduguri

The Nigerian Army, on Sunday evening, repelled an attempt by suspected Boko Haram terrorists to strike the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

A number of social media users resident in the city shared their experiences on network site, Twitter.

One Twitter user, Maina Kachallah shared pictures of horrified residents scampering to safety as sounds of heavy gunfire exchange seized the air.

Few months respite abruptly halted as Boko Haram attempted entry into Maiduguri through Jiddari settlement about 30 minutes ago.

Residents fled in multitude into the inner city through Polo. Info very sketchy, but heard army had confronted them.

Heavy artillery and gunfire heard far & wide. Many colleagues within the area could not be reached, those reached fear answering their phone

Finally some good NEWS! Friends within the area confirmed desperate BH attempted Allidawari attack but was repelled by the army. Sigh

Official statements concerning the attack are being awaited from the Nigerian military authorities and the government.

Today’s confrontation between the military and the terrorist group comes barely a few days after the federal government announced that it had technically won the war against Boko Haram, claiming that the capacities of the sect had been much degraded.
