Fulani-grazing

Suspected Fulani Herdsmen on Monday reportedly killed a 29-year-old prince of Ejegbo community in Ankpa local government area of Kogi State.

It was gathered that the deceased, Haruna, who is an indigenous cattle rearer was ambushed by Fulani herdsmen who were passing through the community, Leadership reports.

Investigation into the tragedy revealed that the prince went into the bush with his cattle when the herdsmen took advantage of the isolated place and kill him.

A source said when the villagers could not find the prince after the day’s work, they organised a search party which later discovered his lifeless body in a pool of his blood with machete cuts all over.

Meanwhile, a major bloodbath was averted following the quick intervention of the chief of the community, Chief Haruna Onuche, who stopped the community youths from carrying out a reprisal attack against the Fulani herdsmen.

Onuche, whose son was gruesomely murdered by the heartless Fulani herdsmen, told the community youths that even if all Fulanis were killed, his son would not return to life, adding that the action would instead cause a breakdown of peace in the community in view of fragile security situation in the land.

The traditional ruler despite his anger and loss urged the community youths to sheathe their swords and avoid vengeance.

When the state police spokesperson was contacted, he said the homicide team deployed to investigate the matter was yet to brief the command.

It would be recalled that a police inspector, named Lado Nuhu was also killed in Jigawa State by suspected Fulani Herdsmen after him and his team had successfully averted Fulani/farmers clash in Kirikasamma local government area of the state.

Meanwhile, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, the umbrella body of Nigerian Fulanis suspended its national chairman, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Bodejo for allegedly being involved in partisan politics and endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan for second term in office.
