Lagos State Government Spends N535m As WAEC Registration Fees

The Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, has said that the state government has paid the West African Examination Council (WAEC) N535,047,000 for the examination and administrative fees for 42,995 SS3 students who are currently sitting for the May/June 2015 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the state.
Speaking at the 2015 ministerial press briefing in commemoration of eight years in office of Governor Babatunde Fashola, the Commissioner said the state government’s commitment to the provision of quality education that is accessible to all informed the massive and sustained investment in the sector.

Giving the breakdown of achievements in the period under review, Oladunjoye said the introduction of screening tests for students to ensure their preparedness for external examinations has yielded positive results leading to improvements in WAEC results from 17.4 percent in 2011 to 45.8 percent in 2014.

“Bearing in mind that quality teaching and learning can only be attained in a conducive environment. Government established four new secondary schools, procured 10,000 pairs of dual desks and benches to public secondary schools, rehabilitated the hostel block at the Lagos State Civil Service Junior Model College, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, and constructed a new boys’ hostel for Badagry Senior Grammar School.”
