There is tension as multiple explosions reportedly rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Saturday, Premium Times reports.

A source who made this known hinted that the thunderous sounds of the explosion caused pandemonium as residents were quailed in fear of Boko Haram attack.

According to the source, the explosions which sound about four times occurred around 7.30am across the city as residents were preparing to go about their lawful activities for the day.

It was gathered that no gun sound accompanied the blasts, but many residents quickly sent messages across making inquiring to ascertain the part of the state that was under attack.

However, a high ranking official of the State Security Service in Maiduguri, revealed that the blasts were not from Boko Haram members.

“Oh sorry, that was just a friendly firing carried out by soldiers of the 7 Division in Maiduguri; they were just test firing some equipments,” an officer who did not want to be named said.

Meanwhile, Maiduguri has been relatively calm for months without any attack from the extremist sect although residents still express fear that the town might be attack at any time following repeated threats from Boko Haram, the sect that claim responsibility for thousands of deaths.

It was further learnt that similar explosions were recorded on Friday and Saturday last week at about the same time.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 45 persons were reportedly killed by Boko Haram on Wednesday in a recent attack on Azaya Kura village of Borno State.

However, President Goodluck Jonathan while speaking in  London at the opening of the meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investment Council (HIIC) said the Federal Government is winning the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency and took a swipe at sections of the media over their reportage on the crisis.
