Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reignited his political rivalry with former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, stating that unlike his predecessor, he was born into wealth and never depended on anyone for success.

Speaking on Friday in reaction to comments made by Amaechi during a recent appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Wike dismissed Amaechi’s criticism and claimed their life paths could not be more different.

Amaechi, who appeared on the same programme on Thursday, had accused Wike of being disrespectful in the political space and claimed responsibility for introducing him into politics.

But in a fiery response, Wike said, “I have a Rolls-Royce; nobody gave it to me; I bought it for myself. I didn’t come from the same background as Rotimi Amaechi.”

He continued, “As a student, I was using a Mercedes-Benz. My father was the manager of so many companies. I come from a rich background but not too rich like the Dangote.”

The Minister also accused Amaechi of corruption, without going into specific details.

Wike and Amaechi, both former governors of Rivers State, have remained at odds since 2015, when their political alliance fractured. The fallout has since escalated into a long-running cold war, often spilling into public confrontations and heated media exchanges.
