Global telecommunications leader Ericsson has inaugurated its regional headquarters in Riyadh, further solidifying its presence in the Middle East and Africa. The new facility reflects the company’s commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by fostering digital innovation and economic growth.
The grand opening was attended by high-profile guests, including Eng. Haytham AlOhali, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Dr. Abdullah A. Aldubaikhi, Assistant Minister at the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia (MISA). Representatives from stc, Mobily, and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) were also present.
A Strategic Move Towards Digital Transformation
Ericsson’s new headquarters is part of its strategy to align with Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to become a global technology hub. Speaking at the event, Dr. Abdullah A. Aldubaikhi said, “The new Ericsson headquarters is a testament to Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional leader in advanced technologies and innovation-led growth.”
The event featured discussions on emerging technologies, including the road to 6G and the role of advanced networks in shaping the future.
Strengthening Long-standing Partnerships
Ericsson has collaborated extensively with Saudi organizations such as stc and Mobily to advance the Kingdom’s telecommunications sector. Eng. Olayan bin Mohammed Alwetaid, CEO of stc, remarked, “Ericsson’s presence in Riyadh further strengthens our partnership and commitment to building a robust digital infrastructure in the region.”
Similarly, Mobily CEO Eng. Nezar H. Banabeela highlighted the significance of the partnership. “We share a vision to make Saudi Arabia a hub for technological innovation and digital efficiency,” he said.
Driving Talent Development and Research
Ericsson has played a vital role in nurturing local talent through initiatives like the Gen-E Graduate Program, which has trained over 190 Saudi graduates since its launch. The program emphasizes gender inclusivity, with women making up half of its participants.
Additionally, collaborations with KACST and KAUST have resulted in initiatives like the “Blink Lab,” which focuses on advanced connectivity solutions, including 5G and immersive technologies.
Patrick Johansson, President of Ericsson Europe, Middle East, and Africa, highlighted the significance of the headquarters. “This step allows us to deepen our collaborations and drive digital growth in Saudi Arabia and beyond,” he said.
