President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent killing of travellers in Plateau State, labelling the attack as “unacceptable and barbaric.” In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, Tinubu directed security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the heinous act are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.

Okay.ng reports that the President’s reaction followed the murder of 12 wedding guests, among them the father and brother of the groom, who were travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Jos, Plateau State. Many of the victims sustained injuries during the attack.

Tinubu has tasked the Nigerian Police Force to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies to ensure the culprits face the full weight of the law. He called for calm among citizens, assuring the public that the government will not allow the incident to go unpunished.

“The Government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence. The state government must work with security agents to get to the root of this recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences,” the President stated.

He emphasized that freedom of movement for all citizens is non-negotiable, warning that the government will not tolerate any attempt by individuals or groups to undermine this fundamental right through violence and intimidation.

Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the people and government of Kaduna State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice and security for all Nigerians.
