A coalition of opposition leaders, led by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, has formally applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), in preparation for the 2027 general election.
Okay.ng reports that the application, dated June 19, 2025, and addressed to the INEC Chairman, was jointly signed by Akin Ricketts, the protem national chairman of ADA, and Abdullahi Musa Elayo, the protem national secretary. A stamped copy of the application confirms it was received by INEC’s office on June 20.
The letter, titled “Application for registration as a political party,” outlines the intent of the coalition to sponsor the registration of ADA under the umbrella of the Nigerian National Coalition Group.
“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance as a political party,” the letter read.
The proposed party, All Democratic Alliance, will adopt ADA as its acronym, with the slogan “Justice for All.” The founders also submitted a manifesto and constitution, detailing the party’s ideological orientation and structural framework.
“We have further attached our manifesto encompassing details of our party ideology and our constitution providing the legal framework that defines our identity, structures, and organisation,” the coalition stated.
