It the D-day! Nigerians head to the polls today for the presidential and National Assembly elections. They decide on who will be the President and those to occupy the two chambers of the National Assembly for the next four years.

Nigeria Decides: Election materials reportedly hijacked in Rivers

Ahead of the Saturday’s presidential election, Rivers state has recorded the first report of hijacking of electoral materials meant for the Presidential election in the state.

Violence has dominated the political atmosphere of Rivers State since the build up to the 2015 general elections started in earnest.

Reports reaching Forumspotz has it that electoral materials and INEC personnel deployed to certain Local government areas in the state have been hijacked by unknown hoodlums.

We gathered that thugs working for a particular political party in the state attacked INEC officials who were moving election materials to Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru and Gokana Local Government areas.

Confirming the incident, a member of the APC in the state said: “PDP thugs hijacked materials and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, personnel meant for Akuku Toru Wards 15, 16 and 17. The hijacked materials and men were taken to Freetown, a hinterland coastal community. The attack was led by two youths whose identities are known.

Buhari accredited in Daura

The presidential candidate of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aishat Buhari have been accredited at his polling ward in Duara, Kastina state.

Garbed in a flowing traditional white robe, the former Head of State alongside his wife, Aishat arrived the polling booth around 8:45am amid tight security.

Within five minutes, Buhari and his wife were accredited by the electoral officers.

Speaking with newsmen, Buhari said, “Well, I like the integrity of the system, and I believe of people are allowed to vote. Rigging won’t be allowed.

INEC has done very well. From their presentation to the council of sate, it has been commending.”

Bomb explosion rocks Enugu polling unit

Tension is high in Enugu following a reported bomb explosion at a polling unit at the WTC Primary School, Enugu, Saturday morning.

WTC Primary School is located at Enugu North, one of the municipal local government areas in the Coal City State.

Card Reader fails Jonathan’s accreditation

President Goodluck Jonathan is currently being accredited in his Otuoke home tome. The President who is in company of his wife got to the polling unit 13 in the community at exactly 9.21.

The card reader at the moment is causing some delays as the President is left standing with his entourage. The First Lady, Patience Jonathan is seen helping herself with a hand fan as the accreditation process continues.

President Goodluck Jonathan stated that he’s not worried that the electoral officers were unable to accredit him.

Forumspotz reports that Jonathan had arrived the Otazi Playground, Polling Unit 039 in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area but could not get accredited due to some technical issues.

Jonathan said he spoke with the INEC chairman and he was informed that the situation was going well across the country.

Addressing newsmen at the polling booth, the president said he would wait despite the technical headache .

His words, “I am not worried that they could not get me accredited at the moment. It only happen to me and not everybody in Nigeria. I just spoke with the INEC chairman and he told me things are going alright across the federation.

“So, I enjoin every Nigerian to wait patiently if the card reading machine is giving problem.”

The president also urged the media against biased and unverified reportage. He said he would be glad if the exercise in conducted in a peaceful manner.

Nigeria Decides: Armed thugs attack corps members, soldiers and Police in Rivers

The incident occurred 10:30 am Saturday in Ozuaha community in Ikwerre Local Government Area.

The thugs were reported to have barricaded the road into the town as the team approached the town.

Reports say the gun battle lasted for about 25 minutes, leaving the town looking like a ghost’s.

Adamawa State Governor, Mr. Bala Ngilari could not be cleared when he went to his polling unit to be accredited.
At the time his PVC was tested on the card reader by INEC’s electoral officers, his wife’s photograph appeared instead of his.

Nigeria Decides: Two killed as Boko Haram attacks polling stations in Gombe

Two people have been reportedly killed after suspected Boko Haram sects attacked polling stations in Gombe state.

The attacks occurred in the villages of Birin Bolawa and Birin Fulani in Nafada district of Gombe state.

An election official, who requested anonymity, told AFP that, “We could hear the gunmen shouting, ‘Didn’t we warn you about staying away from (the) election?’”

Nigeria Decides: Tinubu accredited in Lagos

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been accredited in Lagos ahead of today’s presidential election.

Tinubu, a former governor of the state, arrived the Sunday Adigun polling station, Ikeja, around 10: 44 AM with his entourage.

It didn’t take the electoral officers more than five minutes to get the APC chieftain accredited.

Nigeria Decides: Atiku accredited in Adamawa

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has been accredited to vote.

The Turakin Adamawa was accredited at Ajiya Ward 2, Komihina, Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State.

It took the INEC officers not less than six minutes to get the ex VP accredited.

Atiku told newsmen that the exercise has been very encouraging, while also calling for a free, fair and credible election.

Apprehension in Ifako Ijaiye area of Lagos

There is apprehension of a possible breakdown of law and order in the Ifako Ijaiye, Ojokoro area of Lagos as agents of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are alleging that they have been deliberately prevented from monitoring the election by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

At the African Church Primary School Polling Unit, Ifako Ijaiye Local government area, APC agents were seen complaining that INEC officials in the local government appear to have issued all the available agents’ cards to agents of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the area.

However, INEC officials explained that they had ran out of cards and are now in search of agents’ cards from neighbouring areas to issue to the APC agents.

More policemen have however been drafted to the area to nib whatever trouble may arise from the situation in the bud.

David Mark gets accredited to vote

The Permanent Voter Card, PVC, presented by Senate President, David Mark, in his polling unit in Otukpo Benue State was immediately read by the card reader used.

He was consequently cleared by election officers in an accreditation that took few minutes.

He called on Nigerians to be patient with the exercise and eschew disorderliness.
