On Thursday, June 12, 2025, as Nigeria commemorated Democracy Day, protesters gathered in Ikeja, Lagos State, to voice their frustrations over the current state of governance in the country. The demonstration, organized under the banner “End Bad Governance,” saw citizens take to the streets to express their grievances and demand accountability.

Okay.ng reports that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, personally engaged with the protesters, addressing their concerns and assuring them of their safety. This interaction reflects the police command’s commitment to maintaining peace during the politically charged event.

Earlier in the day, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer shared a video on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, showing armed police officers deployed at the protest site. He reassured the public, stating, “Democracy Day celebrants and protesters at Ikeja Underbridg. Adequate security on the ground for celebrants and protesters alike. No cause for alarm. Your safety and security remain our priority. #LagosPoliceNG.”

The police had previously reached an agreement with 15 Civil Society Organisations, designating Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota as the sole authorized venue for protests in Lagos. This arrangement aimed to facilitate peaceful demonstrations while ensuring public order.
