Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reiterated his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu, commending the president’s “courageous and necessary” decision to eliminate Nigeria’s longstanding fuel subsidy.

Otti, speaking at his country home in Nvosi Isiala Ngwa South, welcomed former Abia Governor and current Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, as well as Senator Chris Adighije, who visited to applaud Otti’s achievements and discuss governance.

Otti emphasized that his alliance with Tinubu transcends political affiliations, rooted in a longstanding friendship and shared economic philosophies. “When you talk about supporting President Tinubu, the President and I are very good friends we agree on so many issues, and as it is natural, we know where we disagree. But, when you talk about the economy, what Mr. President is doing has always been my position for a long time,” Otti stated.

He referenced his past writings during the COVID-19 pandemic, advocating for subsidy removal when global oil demand plummeted. “It requires somebody with courage to remove that subsidy, and I am in support of it. We have behaved in an irresponsible manner for a very long time, the correction would be tough, difficult, and painful,” he added.

Otti also criticized premature political discussions about the 2027 elections, urging focus on present challenges. He praised former Governor Kalu for his infrastructural legacy, especially in Aba, and outlined his administration’s efforts in road reconstruction and economic revitalization, citing a N200 million donation from a grateful Aba resident.

Senator Kalu, in turn, lauded Otti’s governance and road projects, affirming his lifelong friendship and support. He encouraged Otti to maintain close ties with Tinubu for the benefit of Abia State. Senator Adighije echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for bipartisan cooperation for state progress and commending both Otti and Tinubu’s leadership.
