The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a 49-year-old woman, Joy Temitope, for allegedly abducting a two-month-old baby boy in Koko, Delta State. The arrest was made public in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Monday.

According to Edafe, Temitope cunningly lured a 20-year-old mother, deceived her, and then drugged the young woman before fleeing with her infant son. The suspect’s actions set off a months-long investigation, with law enforcement relying on intelligence-driven policing to track her down.

The police statement reads: “The suspect, Mrs Joy Temitope, aged 49 years, lured and deceived a 20-year-old girl who had a two-month-old baby. She drugged the girl and stole her baby somewhere in Koko, Delta State. Acting on intelligence-driven policing, the suspect was arrested three months later and the baby boy, who is now five months old, was rescued and reunited with his mother”.

The Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, provided further details, explaining that the incident occurred during a business trip from Koko to Warri. Temitope allegedly administered a drug-laced juice to the unsuspecting mother, causing her to fall asleep instantly. Seizing the opportunity, Temitope absconded with the child.

Following the report, police operatives launched a thorough investigation, eventually apprehending the suspect and recovering the baby. The child, now five months old, has been safely returned to his parents, while Temitope remains in custody as investigations continue.
