Students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) have expressed deep concerns over recurring robbery attacks in their host communities in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, urging the government to intervene.

Reports reveal that criminal activities in areas such as Ijele, Abapawa, and Imaweje, where many students reside, have created an unsafe environment. In an open letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun, signed by the Students’ Union President, Tomide Abidakun, and General Secretary, Kehinde Olalekan, the students emphasized how the insecurity is disrupting their academic activities and causing widespread fear.

“This crisis escalated on May 8, 2025, when armed robbers attacked students at the Council junction around 10:30 PM. Victims were ambushed, beaten, and robbed of their phones, ATM cards, and other valuables. Since then, daily reports of violent robberies have persisted,” the letter read in part.

The students alleged a lack of action from state security agencies, including the Ogun Police Command, So-Safe Corps, and Amotekun Security Network. They also decried inadequate responses such as “no fuel for patrol vehicles” and instances of extortion by law enforcement officers.

While acknowledging efforts by local community leaders to deploy vigilantes, the students argued that these measures are insufficient against the armed threats. They called for immediate deployment of skilled security personnel, the formation of a joint task force, and disciplinary actions against negligent officers.

The students warned of a mass protest if the government and security agencies fail to act.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for Ogun Police Command, Omolola Oguntola, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
