Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has dismissed the necessity of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s backing to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, okay.ng reports.
In an exclusive interview, Lawal criticized those seeking Buhari’s support, labeling them as “busy chasing shadows.” He insisted that true loyalists of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) prioritize the interests of the poor and will oppose any administration that inflicts hardship, including Tinubu’s.
“These guys have given us a reason to come against them because the CPC is a Talakawa Movement. It’s a movement that has at heart the needs and feelings of the lower class. That is our ideology, which we learned from Buhari,” Lawal stated.
He further clarified that the coalition’s actions do not require Buhari’s blessing: “First of all, we don’t need his (Buhari) blessing. We only needed to tell him what we wanted to do because we were adults.” Lawal also criticized former CPC members who have remained with the APC, describing them as “black sheep” who lack genuine commitment to the movement’s ideals.
