The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has denounced the recent spate of deadly attacks in Plateau State, labeling them as inhumane and a severe blow to the value of human life.

In a statement released on Sunday, the association’s President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, expressed profound grief over the April 4 violence that rocked Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas. The attacks reportedly left dozens dead and several others injured.

Describing the killings as “senseless,” Archbishop Okoh warned that such brutality poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s fragile unity and peace. “These heinous acts are not only a violation of human dignity but also a danger to the collective peace of the nation,” he said.

CAN called on security forces to take prompt and decisive action to apprehend those responsible and ensure they face justice. The association also urged all tiers of government to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities to prevent further violence.

“The ongoing bloodshed is intolerable,” Okoh stressed, adding that authorities must prioritize the safety of citizens and restore peace to affected areas.

As Christians begin the observance of Holy Week, a period marked by solemn reflection, CAN extended prayers to families who have lost loved ones and those injured in the attacks.

“May God bring comfort to the bereaved, healing to the wounded, and peace to every troubled heart,” the statement concluded.
