Nigerian media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has sparked conversations online after revealing that she’s open to becoming a second, third, fourth or even fifth wife at this stage in her life.

Okay.ng reports that the 40-year-old made the disclosure during the latest episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, shared on her YouTube channel.

In a candid chat with designer Banke Kuku, Makinwa questioned whether women have “glamourised” independence to the point of exhaustion.

“As independent women, do you think that we have glamourised this notion of being independent?” she asked.

Responding, Kuku said, “Yeah. It’s tough.”

Makinwa then revealed her own experience:
“I won’t lie, Banke. Let me break it down. Forget the cameras. At this point in my life, if I have the opportunity to be the second, third, fourth or fifth wife, I will take it.”

She explained that constantly being the decision-maker in her life has become mentally draining and expressed her desire for a partner who can occasionally take the lead.

“Let me tell you what the biggest thing for me is, I am the boss everywhere and that could be tiring. You feel like you need someone to lean on. Someone that could decide what is for dinner. Must it be me?” she added.

Makinwa was previously married to businessman Maje Ayida in 2014, but the union ended in 2017 following a publicised cheating scandal.

Rumours had In November 2024 swirled online that she had secretly tied the knot with her longtime friend Farouk Umar, but she quickly dismissed the reports, clarifying that the event in question was simply a Thanksgiving ceremony and that Farouk is just a “bestie.”
