In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s ruling that ousted Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a strong directive to its members, calling for a nationwide mobilization in preparation for taking over Labour Party offices across the country, okay.ng reports.

According to a statement released by NLC President Joe Ajaero, the NLC is mandating the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to promptly appoint an interim leadership. This interim body will be responsible for organizing an inclusive Special National Convention for the party, ensuring that all actions are in strict adherence to the provisions outlined in the LP Constitution and the consent judgment delivered by the Supreme Court.

The NLC’s statement explicitly warns against any steps taken outside these established constitutional procedures, asserting that such actions would be considered a direct affront to the rule of law and an unacceptable assault on constitutional governance. The labor union vowed that any such attempts would be met with firm resistance from Nigerian workers and the wider populace.

Furthermore, the NLC’s statement included sharp criticism of individuals like Mr. Julius Abure, whose relevance, according to the union, lies solely in their willingness to engage in mischief at the behest of unseen powerful figures. The NLC emphasized the Supreme Court’s crucial role as a pillar of the rule of law and national sovereignty, stating that Nigerian workers and genuine Labour Party members would not stand idly by while “unscrupulous elements” disregard Nigeria’s laws and the Supreme Court’s well-founded judgment.
