Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has alleged that he was offered a bribe of N5 billion in 2023 to initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor while he was serving as a leader in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Ehie made the claim during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday night, which was also monitored by Okay.ng.

He said the bribe was presented to him in October 2023 but was flatly rejected, and he promised to soon reveal the identity of the person behind the offer.

“The governor is a man of peace. The governor decided to follow the way of conflict resolution. In October, I was approached with N5 billion bribe against the governor but I refused. The bribe was for impeachment, but I turned it down,” Ehie said.

Okay.ng reports that the Chief of Staff also alleged that the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, was responsible for the bombing of the Assembly complex in 2023.

According to him, the attack, which occurred at night, could not have happened without the knowledge of Amaewhule since only the speaker holds exclusive access to the building after 6:00 p.m.

“It is very important to clarify that I was not, and have no hand in the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” he stated.

He also dismissed the allegations made by the former Head of Service (HoS), George Nwaeke, who had accused him and Governor Fubara of being linked to the Assembly bombing. Ehie accused Nwaeke of being compromised financially to implicate them and described the former HoS’s claims as part of a larger scripted ploy.

“George Nwaeke resigned on March 24, 2025, and by Tuesday, March 25, 2025, he was appealing that the governor should give him some money,” Ehie revealed. “The governor wouldn’t have given him money at that time because he had already resigned, stating that he cannot work with a government not led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.”
