The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is seeking support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to bolster the capabilities of its training centers, aiming to improve the professionalism of road safety personnel nationwide.

During a meeting in Abuja with TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, requested this assistance. He commended TETFund’s existing projects in tertiary education and highlighted the necessity of joint efforts to decrease road accidents and work towards eliminating fatalities.

Mohammed explained that while FRSC’s training institutions were designated to be self-funding, they are currently facing financial challenges. He emphasized that TETFund’s involvement could provide crucial infrastructure and funding, enabling these institutions to effectively contribute to road safety improvements. The FRSC has set a goal to halve road crashes and achieve zero fatalities, a target they believe can be reached through technological advancements, research, and enhanced personnel training.

Echono responded positively, expressing TETFund’s commitment to collaborating with the FRSC on road safety initiatives. He particularly noted the importance of raising awareness and providing training, not only within educational institutions but also throughout the country. He also acknowledged the FRSC’s successful implementation of digital technology, which has significantly improved road safety.

He indicated a willingness to explore collaboration opportunities with the FRSC, including supporting their tertiary institutions that meet the necessary criteria and engaging in joint research projects. He also mentioned that FRSC can utilize TETFund’s reach to deliver road safety education to a large number of students across Nigeria.
