Tinubu Appoints Six New Chief Medical Directors for Federal Hospitals

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of six chief medical directors (CMDs) to lead federal government-owned hospitals across the country.

The appointments, announced on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, are part of the administration’s efforts to revamp Nigeria’s healthcare system and enhance the delivery of quality medical services to citizens.

Among those appointed are:

  • Olusegun Sylvester Ojo – Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State
  • Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi – Reappointed as CMD, Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe
  • Dauda Abubakar Katagum – Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State
  • Ikrama Hassan – Federal Teaching Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa State
  • Ali Mohammed Ramat – National Orthopedic Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State
  • Haruna Abubakar Shehu – Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, Kaduna State

According to Onanuga, the appointments take immediate effect, with each CMD serving a four-year term.

“Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi’s second and final term as CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, commenced on September 5, 2024,” the statement read.

“Dr Dauda Abubakar Katagum’s tenure as CMD of the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State, took effect from December 6, 2024.”

President Tinubu congratulated the appointees, urging them to uphold high standards of professionalism, accountability, and service delivery in their respective institutions.
