The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the death of two individuals following a suspected bomb explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School, located in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of the FCT.

The explosion, which occurred on January 6, 2025, left two dead and two others severely injured, according to a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.

The police reported that they were alerted to the incident by the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, prompting the deployment of a team of operatives, including the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa. The area was cordoned off to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate investigations.

“During the rescue operation, victims were evacuated and rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention,” Adeh said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina State visited the owner of the Islamic school, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and were suspected to have brought the explosive device with them.

Two of the men were killed in the explosion while reportedly tampering with the improvised explosive device (IED) on the school’s veranda. A third man, along with a female trader, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard.

“The FCT Police Command regrets to inform the public of a tragic incident involving a suspected bomb explosion that occurred on January 6, 2025, at approximately 11:00 AM at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School,” the police statement read.

The police confirmed that the FCT Bomb Squad identified the device as an IED, with remnants of the explosive recovered from the scene.
