Nollywood actor Nonso Diobi has revealed that his striking resemblance to veteran actress Hilda Dokubo helped him land his first major role in the movie industry.

Speaking during a recent episode of the ‘Nollywood Hardcore’ podcast, Diobi recounted how Dokubo’s keen observation during an audition changed the course of his acting career.

After years of unsuccessful auditions, the actor disclosed that he finally caught a break when Dokubo noticed him and vouched for him to be cast as her brother in a movie.

“Back to the story of how I got my first movie role. I was at an audition, and I started hearing people calling me from afar. I approached. Before I could get close to them, Hilda Dokubo said, ‘This young boy looks like me. He can play my brother,’” Diobi shared.

“That was how I finally got my first role after three years and more than 1,000 auditions. I didn’t even audition for it.”
