The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has blacklisted 13 schools and 14 supervisors in Kogi State over allegations of examination malpractices.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, during a meeting in Lokoja with principals and supervisors implicated by WAEC.

The Commissioner condemned the rising cases of examination misconduct, declaring that those involved would face legal action under the Kogi State Education Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2020.

“Any principal, teacher, or supervisor who aids and abets examination malpractices will henceforth be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Jones stated. “Examination malpractice is a criminal offence, and we will treat it as such.”

To address the issue, the Commissioner revealed the formation of a committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, to investigate the allegations and prosecute those found guilty.

“Kogi State Government has invested so much in education and will no longer tolerate the attitude of some bad eggs drawing back the gains already made in the education sector. Whoever is promoting examination malpractices is an enemy of Kogi State and must be kicked out of the system,” Jones emphasized.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Jibrin Seidu Alhaji, urged school principals and supervisors to uphold integrity and avoid activities that tarnish the state’s image. “Principals and supervisors must desist from actions capable of bringing down the name of Kogi State to the mud,” he said.
