The Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), Baltasar Ebang Engonga, has been dismissed following the release of explicit videos that have caused widespread outrage in Equatorial Guinea.

The dismissal was ordered by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo after videos surfaced online showing Engonga in intimate encounters with several high-profile women.

The scandal, which broke after nearly 400 tapes of Engonga’s private moments with various women—including some relatives—were leaked on social media, has drawn intense public scrutiny and condemnation.

According to Decree No. 118/2024, dated November 4, Engonga’s removal from office was attributed to alleged misconduct and behaviors considered incompatible with his role in public service.

The decree cited both professional and social conduct that did not align with the standards expected of his high-ranking position.

The scandal has also prompted First Lady Constancia Mangue Obiang to call for decisive governmental action to protect the dignity of Equatoguinean women.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue, Mrs. Obiang expressed her outrage over the incident, emphasizing the impact on the image of women in Equatorial Guinea.

“H.E. Mrs. Constancia Mangue of Obiang, in addition to showing her indignation for this event, has wanted to know the strategy that the Government proposes to mitigate this situation that does nothing but distort and denigrate the image and reputation of the Guineo-Ecuadorian woman, despite the efforts made on the issue of gender,” read a statement from the First Lady’s Press Office.
