Gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded Ifite-Awka, around Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s school gate in Awka, Anambra State, killing at least six people, Okay.ng reports.
The attackers targeted members of a rival cult group hanging around the UNIZIK school gate.
Eyewitnesses reported the gunmen stormed the area around 9:30 a.m on Thursday, sparking chaos and panic.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Anambra State Police Command spokesman, police responded quickly, securing the scene and rushing four fatally shot individuals to the hospital.
Empty bullet shells were recovered, and operations are ongoing.
