Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria after attending the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where he represented President Bola Tinubu.

During his trip, Shettima presented Nigeria’s National Statement at the General Debate and engaged in bilateral meetings and sideline events. One of the key takeaways from the meeting was President Tinubu’s call for world leaders to prioritize debt forgiveness for Nigeria and other developing countries from creditors and multilateral financial institutions.

At the UNGA, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of multilateralism, urging the United Nations to deepen relations among member states based on principles of inclusivity, equality, and cooperation.

He also highlighted the need for special concessions and a review of the current debt burden for countries in the global South to achieve meaningful economic progress.
