Nigerian Military Eliminates 171 Terrorists, Captures 327 in Nationwide Operations

The Nigerian Armed Forces have successfully neutralized 171 terrorists and captured 327 individuals, including those involved in crude oil theft, in a series of operations across the North East, North West, and other volatile regions of the country over the past seven days.

Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations (DMO), disclosed these achievements in a statement released on Friday.

The operations resulted in the detention of 302 individuals linked to terrorist activities and the arrest of 25 suspects involved in oil theft. Additionally, 134 kidnapped hostages were rescued during the same period.

In the South-South region, military troops thwarted an attempted theft of approximately N846,480,800. The operations also led to the seizure of 84 different weapons, 1,499 assorted rounds of ammunition, and a range of other items, including:

  • 843 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
  • 506 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition
  • 60 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ball rimmed ammunition
  • 90 live cartridges
  • 5 Baofeng radios
  • 11 vehicles
  • 46 motorcycles
  • 4 bicycles
  • 52 mobile phones
  • Cutlasses
  • N126,285 in cash

In a further crackdown on illegal activities in the Niger Delta, troops uncovered and destroyed 26 dugout pits, 13 boats, 90 drums, and 45 storage tanks.

The operations also led to the seizure of 155 cooking ovens, four speedboats, one pumping machine, seven vehicles, and the dismantling of 98 illegal refining sites.

Additionally, the military recovered 799,400 liters of stolen crude oil and 151,150 liters of illegally refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil).
