The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared June 12, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate Democracy Day. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the government, congratulating Nigerians on the occasion.

Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to reflect on the country’s progress and remain committed to democratic governance. He also reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to economic and security reforms.

The minister called on Nigerians to appreciate the progress made and look forward to a better future for the country’s democracy. He wished Nigerians a happy Democracy Day celebration.

This year’s Democracy Day marks another milestone in Nigeria’s journey towards democratic consolidation. The holiday honors the country’s transition to democracy and the struggles of its founding fathers.
