Former Vice-President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the killing of soldiers in Aba, Abia State, during the sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) across the Southeast.

Atiku called for a political solution to the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, who is facing treason charges. He believes this would help calm tension in the region and separate criminal elements from legitimate agitators.

The military has vowed to retaliate fiercely and bring overwhelming pressure to ensure the total defeat of IPOB. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, made this known in a statement.

Atiku’s call for a political solution comes as the region experiences heightened tensions and violence, with students writing WAEC examinations also affected by the sit-at-home order.
