Edison Ehie, the former speaker of a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, has made a shocking revelation that he was offered money to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Ehie, who is now Chief of Staff to the governor, disclosed this at an event in Ahoada East, Rivers State, over the weekend.

According to Ehie, he was approached with a bribe to remove the governor, but he refused to accept the offer. He stated, “They invited me, your son, to impeach the governor, and I told them clearly, I was not interested. They gave me all the money that was hidden before, which I rejected. And because I refused, they conspired and declared me wanted.”

Ehie’s revelation comes amidst the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, which has seen factions of the State House of Assembly emerge, with one faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the other to Governor Fubara.

In 2023, Ehie was declared wanted by the police in connection with the invasion of the State House of Assembly, which occurred amidst reports of lawmakers attempting to impeach Fubara.

The political tensions in Rivers State have been ongoing since 2023, with various factions vying for control.

Despite a brief peace accord signed by both Wike and Fubara camps, the crisis has continued, with Ehie’s revelation highlighting the depth of the political intrigue and corruption in the state.
