The police have arraigned 29 suspects for their alleged involvement in the invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat.

The suspects were presented before the Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Wednesday.

The arraignment, under case number Mi/520c/2024, involves charges brought against the suspects by the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State.

They face a seven-count charge, including “treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.”

Inspector Bakare Rasaq, representing the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku, Ibadan, informed the court that the offences are punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

The arrests stem from an incident on April 13, during which security officers apprehended 16 gunmen suspected to be affiliated with the Oodua Nation.

These gunmen reportedly invaded the state secretariat at Agodi, Ibadan, blocking the Secretariat’s access road to pave the way for other members of their group.

Clad in military camouflage, the gunmen attempted to force their way into the Secretariat complex but were met with resistance from security personnel.

Subsequently, some of the gunmen were apprehended on the scene, while others attempted to flee, leading to pursuits into surrounding bushes and forests by law enforcement agents.
