The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has disclosed the projected costs for rehabilitating two critical bridges in Lagos during a tour of infrastructure projects in the state with the National Assembly Joint Committee on Works.

Umahi revealed that the rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge is estimated to cost approximately N21 billion, while the Carter Bridge’s rehabilitation is projected to require N25 billion in funding.

During the tour, Umahi emphasized the urgent need to address the deteriorating condition of the bridges to avert further escalation of costs.

He warned that failure to promptly rehabilitate the structures could lead to significant financial burdens, estimating a potential reconstruction cost of N6 trillion if the rehabilitation works are delayed.

“The cost of rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge is estimated at N21 billion,” Umahi stated, underlining the severity of the challenges posed by the deteriorating infrastructure.

In addition to highlighting the financial implications, Umahi emphasized the importance of prioritizing the rehabilitation works to ensure the safety of commuters and mitigate the risk of accidents or structural failures.

“I want the National Assembly to note that this is the worst of our challenges on these two bridges. The cost of rehabilitation of Carter Bridge is N25 billion,” Umahi reiterated.
