The National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Julius Abure, has been re-elected for a second term amidst opposition from the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC.
In a unanimous affirmation of delegates, Abure’s reelection was declared during the party’s national convention held on Wednesday in Nnewi, Anambra State.
The Chairman of the National Convention and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu, announced Abure as the winner.
Despite facing challenges from the NLC leadership, led by Joe Ajaero, Abure emerged victorious, signaling continuity in his leadership of the party.
The NLC has been vocal in its opposition to Abure’s leadership, calling for his resignation as party chairman.
The NLC advocates for the immediate constitution of a caretaker transition committee to organize a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention for the party.
