The Police Service Commission (PSC) has granted approval for the promotion of 1,607 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) to the rank of Superintendent of Police, according to a statement by PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani on Wednesday.

The promotion, initially slated for consideration at the last management meeting, was temporarily set aside due to discrepancies in the list. Ani explained that after addressing the issues, the PSC proceeded with the elevation of the officers to the rank of Superintendent of Police.

The breakdown of the promotions reveals that 158 officers in the professional cadre have been promoted, including 105 from the communication unit, 22 in transport, 10 medical officers, nine nurses, and an additional nine from works. Other professionals who received promotions include six workshop officers, three maritime officers, and one each from the medical and dental units, as well as the band.

A total of 1,423 DSPs were promoted in the general duty cadre. Notable among the promoted officers are Public Relations Officers for Anambra and Delta states, Tochukwu Anthony Ikenganyia, and Bright Edafe. The list also includes officers holding key positions across various commands and units.

Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the PSC, emphasized the commission’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all cadres within the police force. He highlighted the end of the era where specialists remained confined to one rank, emphasizing that the new approach aims for a more dynamic and rewarding career progression.

Arase warned that any officer found undermining the ethics, rules, and regulations of the force would face disciplinary action.
