Former Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Ilorin, with the sum of ₦50,000,000 and two sureties required to possess landed properties in Ilorin, the state capital. The court also ordered Ahmed to deposit his international passport among other conditions.

Ahmed’s arraignment on Friday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) followed his invitation for questioning earlier in the week. Journalists were notably barred from covering the proceedings, being denied entry into the court.

The former governor faced scrutiny over transactions amounting to billions of naira during his tenure as governor, spanning from May 2011 to May 2019, when he handed over to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

Okay.ng can confirm that this isn’t the first time Ahmed has come under the EFCC’s radar.

In May 2021, he was interrogated at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja over alleged diversion of funds totaling approximately N9 billion from the Kwara State Government’s coffers.

The alleged diversion occurred during Ahmed’s time as governor, as well as during his tenure as Commissioner for Finance under ex-Governor Bukola Saraki’s administration.
