The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the preliminary draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be conducted today at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

In a statement released by CAF’s Communication Department on Monday, it was disclosed that the draw for the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, Morocco 2025 preliminary round, is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12.

The draw is set to commence at 14:00 local time (12:00 GMT) and will determine the matchups for the preliminary round of the tournament.

According to CAF, the preliminary round will feature the eight lowest-ranked teams based on the FIFA ranking. These teams include Somalia, Djibouti, Sao Tome, Chad, Mauritius, South Sudan, Liberia, and Eswatini.

Matches in the preliminary round will be contested on a home-and-away basis during the FIFA Window of March 18 to March 26, 2025.

“The four preliminary round winners will join the 44 exempted teams for the group stage,” the statement further explained.

The recently concluded 2023 AFCON, hosted in Côte d’Ivoire, culminated in a thrilling final match where the host team, the Elephants, emerged victorious by defeating the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a scoreline of 2-1.
