The Federal Government of Nigeria has commended the Super Eagles for their remarkable victory against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the semi-final of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023, held in Ivory Coast.

The game ended 1-1 after extra time, and Nigeria emerged victorious with a 4-2 penalty shootout triumph, securing their spot in the final. Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho was the hero, netting the decisive penalty in a nail-biting showdown in Bouake.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, hailed the Super Eagles’ triumph as resounding, expressing the nation’s unwavering support for the team as they aim to etch their names in the annals of African and global football history.

“The entire nation rallies behind the Super Eagles as they prepare to make history and write their names in gold African and global football,” stated the minister, emphasizing the extraordinary performance displayed by the Nigerian side.
