Nigerian track and field star Tobi Amusan has rewritten the record books once again, setting a new African women’s indoor record in the 60-meter dash with a scintillating time of 7.75 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.

The 26-year-old sprint sensation blazed across the indoor circuit on Sunday, eclipsing her previous record of 7.77 seconds set at the Astana Indoor Meet in Kazakhstan just last month.

Despite finishing second in the race, Amusan’s electrifying performance solidified her status as one of the continent’s most formidable sprinters. She narrowly trailed behind Tia Jones of the United States, who crossed the finish line in 7.72 seconds to break the meeting record and secure the world lead for the year.

In a closely contested race, Devynne Chalton of the Bahamas clinched third place with a time of 7.76 seconds, rounding out the trio of leaders in the blistering sprint event.

Amusan’s remarkable feat comes hot on the heels of her historic achievement on January 27, where she shattered Gloria Alozie’s 25-year-old African record in the same event. The former world champion’s remarkable form signals a promising start to the new athletics season and underscores her unwavering commitment to excellence on the track.

Meanwhile, another Nigerian athlete, Favour Ofili, showcased her talent in the women’s 300 meters, finishing a commendable second behind Gabby Thomas of the United States. Thomas set a world-leading time of 35.75 seconds to claim victory, while Lynna Irby-Jackson secured third place with a time of 36.05 seconds.
