Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest oil refinery, has received its fourth shipment of one million barrels of bonny light crude from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), signaling significant progress towards the commencement of production.

In an announcement on Sunday, Dangote Oil Refining Company revealed that preparations are underway for the commencement of production at the refinery, and the fifth crude shipment is expected to arrive shortly.

“The fresh one million barrels of crude was the fourth consignment to be delivered to the Dangote facility out of the six million barrels of crude being expected by the world’s largest single-train refinery,” the statement noted.

Akin Omole, the Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, shared insights with journalists at the Dangote Quay in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

He disclosed that the refinery is set to receive approximately four million barrels of crude by the end of 2023, with the remaining two million expected in January 2024.

The refinery, poised to be a game-changer in Nigeria’s oil industry, is slated to produce diesel, aviation fuel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and premium motor spirit (PMS) once the total six million barrels are delivered.

Earlier in December 2023, Dangote Refinery marked a crucial milestone as it received its maiden one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from the Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO).

This supply was deemed instrumental in initiating the refinery’s operations and kickstarting the production of various petroleum products.

The refinery received its second phase of crude feedstock from NNPC Limited on December 20, 2023, and subsequently, on December 29, 2023, welcomed its third shipment of one million barrels of crude oil feedstock.
