The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has apologised to candidates who were unable to participate in the mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that took place on Thursday, 30th March 2023.

The board stated that the exercise was held in 725 centres across Nigeria, but some candidates were unable to sit for the exam due to glitches experienced during the exercise.

In a statement issued by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the board said that candidates who could not participate in the exam would be given another opportunity to sit for it.

The statement added that a new date for the exam would be announced in due course, and the rescheduled exam would be at no cost to the affected candidates.

“The board would want to use this opportunity to apologise to all candidates for any inconvenience they might have experienced on account of this. This is part of a development process aimed at enhancing the board’s efforts at improving the quality, security, and sanctity of its services, and as well as using same to herald the next phase of its transformational agenda,” the statement reads.

“The exercise also gave the board the rare opportunity of fine-tuning this process for better results. The gains from the exercise cannot be quantified as the Board has taken note of the challenges thrown up and had, consequently, been better placed to deliver a seamless UTME exercise come April, 2023 in line with its projections.”

JAMB stated that the glitches experienced during the mock exam were due to new initiatives introduced to improve the conduct of the exercise.

The board also assured candidates and the general public that it would continue to devise new and better ways of enhancing the quality of large-scale assessments in Nigeria.
