Following receipt of a viral video with female voices alleging, in a mixture of Igbo and English, that in the afternoon hours of Friday, helicopters dropped unknown persons, numbering around 100, on the top of Ugwu-ajali hill, bordering Ologo, Jamboree, and Coal Camp areas of Enugu, the State Police Command advised residents of the said locations and the entire state to disregard the information.

According to the police, it was a “clearly doctored video and information therein is fake and purely a product of the mongers’ figment of imagination and disinformation, aimed at misleading and creating panic and confusion among the state’s law-abiding citizens.”

This was revealed in a statement obtained on Sunday from the state’s police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe.

Because of the damaging effects of disinformation on public peace, security, and safety in this day and age, the Command is urging residents to “disregard the unsubstantiated and fraudulent video, since there is no record of such incidence in the specified places or any other portion of the state.”

“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, has ordered the conduct of an intelligence-guided discreet inquiry to find the video’s makers and peddlers, while emphasizing the Command’s steadfast commitment to ensuring maximum public security and protection of state citizens.”

“The Commissioner additionally asks on people of the state to always stay law-abiding, vigilant, and to make every effort to analyze and/or verify tensive and deceptive social media content,” the statement continued.

The CP also urged locals to continue reporting criminals and criminal actions to their local police station or by phoning the Command’s hotlines at 08032003702, 08075390883, or 08086671202. Alternatively, you can send an email to [email protected].
