a respected monarch and a kinsman of the president, alongside Sokoto State deputy governor, Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, secretly visited the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubkar III, in his palace on the matter.Jonathan’s kinsman, who arrived Sokoto with a presidential jet, headed straight for the Sultan’s palace where they held a closed-door meeting.

Details of the meeting could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report. However, a source within the palace said it was not unconnected with the president’s re-election bid.
