Nigerians have taken to Twitter to call for the scrapping of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

This followed an announcement by the Nigerian Police Force Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU), calling on Nigerians to voice their complains about SARS.

The PCRRU made the call on Saturday on Twitter.

“Do you have any complaints about your contact with SARS? You don’t need to know their names, all we need you to provide are details of the occurrence (action/act) with DATE, TIME & PLACE. Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) #BailisFree #NoToImpunity. Please share this message,” it tweeted.

However, Nigerians did not wait to call the helplines listed in the announcement but took to the social media platform to register their displeasure.

Many narrated their ordeal with SARS just as others shared troubling videos of their encounters with them.

You need not have experienced the menace called SARS to call for #EndSARS , you have friends and relatives. Certainly not all your folks live inside Aso Rock. I don't support reforms here, it should be deleted, trash emptied too.

#EndSARS

2015: It was about 6.40pm, somewhere around Federal Secretariat, Abuja. A friend and I were concluding a brief discussion in my car when SARS men quickly drove in front of us and blocked my car. Like an action film, they jumped off theirs, swung my car doors open… /1

People are not supposed to be afraid of the people that are supposed to be looking after us. A couple weeks ago, at almost midnight, my friends and I had a gun pointed at us for laughing. For laughing. #EndSARS #ActuallyTakeGunsAwayFromTriggerHappyPeopleWhoHideBehindTheUniform!

Their boss had to talk him down! Pointing a gun at 3 ladies because of your insecurities is incredibly frightening! Policemen need to be mentally evaluated and checked before being handed guns. And they need to be accountable!! Otherwise, they can get away with anything. #EndSARS

Just cos I haven't been a victim don't mean I'll act like it doesn't exist.I've seen videos of pple been molested.it's devastating. However I know we av to look beyond Twitter for appropriate solutions to #EndSARS but we can at least spark up a mind that will help..

There is this man called 'No shaking' he has been terrorizing youths of the whole of Ori-Okuta axis in IKD for years , he claims to be SARS but I learnt he was dismissed years ago but he still operates illegally #EndSars this is too sad ☹️

The injustice and brutality must stop cos it has reached stopping people on the road and using hotspot to check if one has tweet or comment on Facebook about the #ENDSARS
